I like to think of dog training like baking a cake. In order to get the perfect result:
1. You gather all the necessary ingredients or elements.
2. You ensure each element is just the right quality and quantity for success before moving to the next step.
2. When each element is just right you then blend or chain them together step by step
3. You ensure you do not underwork or overwork the mixture.
4. You provide the perfect environment for your cake to rise and succeed.
5. You review your cake and decide if it needs tidying round the edges or more time in the oven to be perfect or if necessary you go back a few steps or to the beginning and start again.
6. You allow time for it to cool in readiness for the next step.
7. If its just as you aimed for you can then enhance it with jam and cream
7. You add the icing and embellishments to top it all off.
8. You impress all your friends and family with the result and encourage them to try it.
The moral of the story is anyone can throw a bunch of ingredients in to a mixing bowl but that doesn’t make an ideal cake.
Getting each element right from the beginning before moving to the next step is vital.
If it doesn’t work go back to when it was last right and go from there. Don’t be afraid to start again, it’s worth it in the end.
If you take your time and do each step well the results should speak for themselves.
Don’t be too ambitious, start with a more simple concept and then as you succeed more and gain confidence you can look at doing something much more complex. There's a big difference between making a cupcake and a wedding cake!
